Meet John McNutt: Canadore Student and Cementation Americas' New Mechanic Apprentice

Cementation Americas, renowned for its expertise in underground mine contracting and engineering, proudly introduced John McNutt, a Canadore College student, as its newest Mechanic Apprentice at their North American Maintenance Facility in North Bay, Ont. With the facility’s mandate to support the servicing of Cementation’s global underground fleets, raise boring plants and shaft sinking equipment., John steps into his role with a clear sense of purpose and determination.

What distinguishes John goes beyond mere technical proficiency; it's his comprehensive background and unwavering commitment to skills development. Currently in his final year of the Truck and Coach Technician Apprenticeship program at Canadore College, John seamlessly merges theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, acquired through a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for the challenges of the automotive industry. His educational journey at Canadore College has furnished him with a robust foundation in automotive mechanics, equipping him with the tools to excel in his capacity as a Mechanic Apprentice.

“We are extremely happy to welcome John onto the Cementation maintenance crew,” said André Beaulieu, shop manager. Our team is extremely busy maintaining an extensive fleet of machinery for projects all around the world. The diversity and complexity of the work John will perform will test his knowledge, amplify his skills, and bolster his experience. At Cementation, we view apprenticeships as a way to increase productivity, generate fresh perspectives, and develop a long-term workforce. The Truck and Coach Technician Apprenticeship program at Canadore College has been instrumental in shaping John's skill set, providing him with comprehensive training in disassembling, adjusting, repairing, and reassembling various automotive components. From engines and transmissions to brakes and axles, John's education has not only made him proficient but also career-ready, ensuring that he can seamlessly integrate into the workforce and contribute meaningfully from day one.
