New High-Def Video Showcases Canadore Talent and Program Quality

Canadore’s new corporate video, created in house with students learning on the set, shows off the talent and quality that exist locally at the College.

Canadore’s strategic plan comes to life in the new video, Shifting Forward, laying out the College’s vision for the future. Created entirely in-house by Canadore’s Marketing Department together with a Television and Video Production professor and his students, it will be televised locally and featured to a global audience online.

“The video showcases some of the expertise we have within our walls,” said Canadore President George Burton. “We are tapping into our home grown resources more and more. We are training the next generation of professionals and this video is a testament to the high calibre of talent we have under our own roof.”

From concept to creation - writing, filming, editing and production – the video is 100 per cent Canadore. It took four days to shoot with students learning on the set in a sort of real-world classroom from Professor and Coordinator of the Television program, Yura Monestime.

“The students are so eager to be on an authentic set and see how it is really done…this was a great learning experience for them,” said Monestime.

The video was shot on the ultra high definition-high resolution RED EPIC digital camera, used in films like The Hobbit and Snow White and the Huntsman and is part of the recent investment in Canadore’s Integrated Media Centre. Students took turns helping on the crew in a number of positions including working as lighting assistants, focus pullers and grip and camera assistants.

“It was an awesome opportunity.  I was able to see how everything that I’ve been learning can be applied to create such a high quality product and see the pre-production as well as the direction of the film shoots first hand,” said Shannon Lucas, 2nd Year Television and Production student.

Many of Canadore’s programs and labs were rolled into the filming including: Theatre Arts, Civil Engineering, Aviation, Biotechnology, Culinary, Nursing as well as Trades and Technology programs.

Since May 2012, Canadore has been filming a series of commercials with the same skilled team in a student-centered learning forum. The commercials were broadcast provincially and online and feature real Canadore students, graduates and professors. Watch them all here.
