NursingWith Canada's aging population, the need for skilled health care professionals is greater than ever. Shortages of health care workers are evident in this country and around the globe. The need for workers in this vital job sector has created ample opportunity for those wanting to start a rewarding career. Canadore offers health focused programs that position students to meet future workplace demand. Training includes one-on-one learning paired with real world clinic and placement opportunities.

"Canadore was the natural choice, because I live here. The whole experience has been fantastic. I specifically like the lab, getting hands-on experience and meeting new friends," said Practical Nursing student Caralee Smith.

Dental Hygiene

Students learn the vital skills to become selfregulated health professionals. Training includes clinical practice, principles of radiology, microbiology, periodontics, and orthodontics. Students work with clients from the community on-site in Canadore’s dental lab where they offer free cleanings while putting their theory into practice. Graduates are in high demand and find employment in dental offices, hospitals, and research institutes.

Respiratory Therapy

This three-year program prepares students to evaluate, treat, and manage the care of patients with cardiopulmonary abnormalities. Graduates of this program are extensively trained in medical gas administration, mechanical ventilation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and anaesthesia. A third- year placement includes the Hospital for Sick Children and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital where students gain practical experience in a neonatal and pediatric setting. Graduates enter this in-demand, lifesaving field and find employment in hospitals, home care, research, and diagnostic facilities.

The lab is equipped with interactive mannequins that speak and replicate real symptoms. Students act out various medical emergencies on the life-like models. Training includes nursing practice, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology and culminates with an eightweek pre-graduate placement experience working with a registered practical nurse.
