Canadore Program: Communication Arts Programs

Degree: 3-year or 4-year Bachelor of Arts

Eligibility: Diploma program graduates must meet Algoma University admission requirements defined as the successful completion of a 3-year diploma program with a minimum overall average of C+ to be eligible for credit recognition. Students with a C- or C grade from any diploma will be considered for admission, but will not receive transfer credit. Generally, successful applicants from a 3-year diploma program with an overall average of A- or greater will receive recognition for a maximum of 60 credits toward an Algoma University Bachelor of Arts Degree; students with a B-, B or B+ will receive recognition for a maximum of 45 credits toward an Algoma University Bachelor of Arts Degree; students with a C+ will receive recognition for a maximum of 30 credits toward an Algoma University Bachelor of Arts Degree. Successful applicants from a 2-year diploma program with an overall average of A- or greater will receive recognition for a maximum of 45 credits toward an Algoma University Bachelor of Arts Degree; students with a B-, B or B+ will receive recognition for a maximum of 30 credits toward an Algoma University Bachelor of Arts Degree; students with a C+ will receive recognition for a maximum of 15 credits toward an Algoma University Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Canadore Program: Technology Programs

Degree: 3-year Bachelor of Science

Eligibility: Diploma graduates must meet Algoma University admission requirements defined as the successful completion of a 3-year diploma program with a minimum overall average of C+ to be eligible for credit recognition. Students with a C- or C grade from any diploma will be considered for admission, but will not receive transfer credit. Generally, successful applicants from a 3-year diploma program with an overall average of A- or greater will receive recognition for a maximum of 36-42 credits toward an Algoma University Bachelor of Science Degree; students with a B-, B or B+ will receive recognition for a maximum of 30-36 credits toward an Algoma University Bachelor of Science Degree; students with a C+ will receive recognition for a maximum of 24 credits toward an Algoma University Bachelor of Science Degree. Eligibility: Graduates of diploma programs relating to the social services with a minimum overall B average may be eligible for advanced standing in the Honours Bachelor of Social Work program. Students will be considered on an individual basis upon receipt of official academic transcripts. Students who have completed the first and second years of the HBSW program and are seeking admission to the professional years (third and fourth years) are required to formally apply to the Office of Admissions and Recruitment in order that professional and academic suitability may be determined by the Admissions Committee of the Department of Social Work. Admissions criteria include academic standing, a written personal statement, references, work and volunteer experience. A maximum of five full course equivalents may be granted, with students entering into Year 2 of the program.

Eligibility: Nipissing University offers Registered Practical Nurses a 3-year compressed Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. The Post-RPN to BScN compressed program will be offered through a full-time delivery model and will be 6 semesters in length. Successful completion of a two-year Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) Diploma with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 from Canadore College, as well as successful completion of the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE) or proof of eligibility to write and subsequently pass the CPNRE, is required for admission consideration.

Canadore Program: Culinary Management

Degree: Bachelor of Commerce - Hospitality and Tourism Management

Eligibility: Generally, graduates of a Hospitality and Tourism-related program from an Ontario Community College program with at least a 3.0 overall average are eligible to be considered for third semester entry to the program. Applicants are considered on an individual, case-by-case basis, and will be required to take some courses from first and/or second semester. Courses from the applicants’ diploma studies will granted at the time of admission.

Canadore Program: Early Childhood Education

Degree: Bachelor of Arts-Early Childhood Education

Eligibility: Grade B (3.0 GPA) average in Ontario College Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma program or its equivalent, with proof of diploma completion; PLUS all direct-entry applicants must have completed three 1-term (or equivalent) liberal studies courses at the university level with minimum B- grade prior to admission to the Early Childhood Education program. In addition:

  • One of the lower-level liberal studies courses MUST be an English subject.
  • College General Education courses CANNOT be used as substitutions for university-level liberal studies courses.
  • These courses CANNOT be part of the ECE Diploma studies.
  • These courses CANNOT be introductory- level Psychology or Sociology.
  • Because of their relevance to the profession, applicants are advised to complete introductory-level Psychology and Sociology courses during their college studies prior to admission to Ryerson.
  • This program accepts qualified applicants with an ECE diploma directly into the third year of the Bachelor of Arts program

Canadore Program: Practical Nursing, Respiratory Therapy

Degree: Bachelor of Health Administration (Health Information Management)

Eligibility: The Health Information Management part-time degree completion program is designed to allow health practitioners to upgrade their education to the level of an undergraduate degree in theory and management of health education. This program in Health Information Management is intended for two separate, distinct applicant streams, and the university welcomes/encourages applications from both of these groups as outlined below.

Stream A: For individuals who are graduates of health record/health information accredited or recognized programs, having at least two years’ related experience in the field of health information and a grade average of B or better. Documentation of professional registration/certification with the CHIMA is also required. Potential candidates with other postsecondary academic backgrounds and extensive work experience in the field will be considered on an individual basis.

Stream B: Individuals who are graduates of a 3-year diploma program with a grade average of B or better in applied health sciences (e.g., nursing, medical laboratory technology, chiropody, radiology, respiratory therapy) from an Ontario CAAT, or the equivalent. The diploma must include a 1-year introductory university-level humanities course or equivalent. Candidates must have at least 2 years of professional experience in the health services field, as well as documentation of professional registration/certification where applicable. Potential students with other post-secondary academic backgrounds and extensive work experience in the field will be considered on an individual basis. Applicants with no specific experience/training in the health information field will be expected to achieve proficiency in the core health information subject areas that are currently taught in the CAATs or equivalent educational systems.

NOTE: Given that this is a degree-completion program in Health Information Management, the curriculum dovetails and aligns with the current learning outcomes for CHIMA-recognized health information management practitioner programs. Admitted to an advanced level.

Canadore Program: Practical Nursing, Respiratory Therapy

Stream B: Candidates must be in possession of a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a field related to health sciences from an accredited university, or a Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2 years of professional experience in the health services field. Applicants who have yet to finish their first degree may be eligible for conditional acceptance contingent on their completing their degree requirements prior to the commencement of classes. Admitted students are given advanced standing.

Canadore Program: Social Service Worker

Degree: Bachelor of Social Work

Eligibility: Holders of a Social Service Diploma from a Canadian community college (or equivalent), who have at least a B-level average, plus completion of three 1-term university liberal studies courses, one lower-level and two upper-level, NOT first year/first level (lower level) Psychology, Politics or Sociology, with at least a C level grade in each course, AND Completion of a prerequisite course, CVSW 015 Foundations of Social Work II, with at least a B-level grade. Liberal study and employment prerequisites must be successfully completed prior to registration in CVSW 015. Admission to CVSW 015 is limited by space availability. Applicants will be pre-selected to take this course by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in conjunction with the School of Social Work. Applicants will be selected based on postsecondary academic performance and/or employment in the social service field. Students approved to enter this program are not eligible to receive further transfer or challenge credits. Admission to advanced standing is to the third year of the program and is available on a part-time study basis only.

Degree: Commerce Bridging Program - Bachelor of Commerce

Eligibility: Graduates from Ontario College Diploma (2-year) or Ontario College Advanced Diploma (3-year) programs with an overall B average or better will be considered for admission to UOIT’s Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Bridge program. No direct transfer credit is given. Upon completion of the bridge semester, the student is eligible to enter into the third year of the 4-year Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Program. Students who successfully complete all five bridge courses with a minimum cumulative B average (3.0 GPA) will be eligible for admission to the third year of UOIT’s 4-year Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree program.

Canadore Program: Advertising - Creative Media

Degree: Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Communication

Eligibility: Graduates from Canadore’s Advertising - Creative Media with an overall B average or better will be considered for admission to UOIT’s Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Communication Bridge program. No direct transfer, however a student is eligible to enter the third year of the Communication Honours Program after successful completion of the bridge. Students who successfully complete the bridge courses with a cumulative B average (3.0 GPA) on a four-point scale will be eligible for admission to the third year of UOIT’s 4-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Communication degree program. The specific average or standing required for admission varies from year to year. Students are selected by taking into consideration a wide range of criteria including school marks, distribution of subjects taken, and performance in subjects relevant to the academic program. Possession of minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Preference will be given to applicants with the best qualifications.

Canadore Program: Community and Justice Services, Police Foundations

Degree: Bachelor of Arts (Honours)

Eligibility: No direct transfer, however a student is eligible to enter the third year of the Criminology and Justice Honours Program after successful completion of the bridge. Credits that must be achieved at the receiving institution: Students with an Ontario College Diploma (2-year) or Ontario College Advanced Diploma (3-year) in Correctional Worker, Community and Justice Services, Police Foundations, Law and Security Administration will take the following four bridge courses:

  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Quantitative Methods
  • Research Methods
  • Sociological Theories of Crime

Students who successfully complete all four bridge courses will be eligible for admission into the third year of the 4-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Criminology and Justice.

Canadore Program: Dental Hygiene, Practical Nursing, Respiratory Therapy

Degree: Bachelor of Allied Health Science (Honours)

Eligibility: Students seeking admission to the BAHSc must be graduates from one of the approved health professional programs with an overall B average or better. Applicants must hold a current licence to practice from the relevant licensing body.

Approved health professional diplomas and graduate certificates* include:

Students meeting initial admission requirements will receive a conditional acceptance and must then complete the appropriate bridging courses with a minimum grade of 2.3 or higher in each.

NOTE: The specific average or standing required for admission varies from year to year. Students are selected by taking into consideration a wide range of criteria including school marks, distribution of subjects taken, and performance in subjects relevant to the academic program. Possession of minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Preference will be given to applicants with the best qualifications.

Canadore Program: Practical Nursing

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Honours)

Eligibility: A transfer block of 33 transfer credit hours is awarded after the successful completion of the required three bridge courses. This transfer block is from the completion of a Practical Nursing Diploma and current Certificate of Competence as a Registered Practical Nurse from the College of Nurses of Ontario. Qualified students will be conditionally accepted and must complete three bridge courses with a grade of C (2.0) or higher prior to acceptance into the RPN to BScN degree program.

BScN 120 credits including: (a) Bridge courses: 9 credit hours (b) Major requirements: 66 credit hours in core nursing courses (c) Elective requirements: 12 credit hours outside major at any level

Canadore Program: Business (2 yr)

Degree: Bachelor of Commerce (Honours Business Administration)

Eligibility: Graduates of Canadore’s 2-year diploma programs with a cumulative average of B- may transfer to the Odette School of Business Administration at the University of Windsor subject to the following: (a) Applicants will be granted a maximum of two terms’ credit toward the Bachelor of Commerce program. (b) A remedial course in mathematics may be necessary in order for transfer students to pursue the first-year Mathematics course required in the Bachelor of Commerce program.

Degree: Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Disability Studies for CAAT Graduates

Eligibility: Graduates of a 2-year college program in the area of health, human services or social services with an overall B average or better may be admitted into second year of the Pre-Disability Studies program. Total courses: 30 courses, plus a minimum of a 2-year College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) diploma in a health, human services or social services area with the following stipulations: No more than 7 courses can be at the 100 level. In cases where a student previously completed a university course or courses, the course(s) will not be used to fulfil the 30-course degree requirements if they were used by the College of Applied Arts and Technology to grant advanced standing to the diploma program. In such cases, the Interdisciplinary Disability Studies Committee will identify a substitute course requirement. This course is available to students with experience in working with persons with disabilities or who are establishing a skill set to work with a specific disability population. This course sequence will be taken by students not undertaking service delivery work with persons with specific disabilities.
