There is an increased demand for early childhood educators. Get the skills you need to start a rewarding career working with young children. This activity-based program is taught using a holistic approach in which the stages of a child’s developmental growth as well as cognitive skills and socio-emotional development are emphasized.


Graduates of our program find careers working in partnership with teachers in Kindergarten classrooms across Ontario, as well as other early learning environments.

The placement component of this program offers you hands-on, real-world experience.

Additional Options

1 Year Intensive program option available to students who possess a Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology or Sociology

Students applying to this program must be able to demonstrate that they are capable of independently supervising and caring for the needs and of young children.

Program Prerequisites

OSSD or equivalent, ENG4C or ENG4U.


Other Requirements

A completed Canadore College Health Centre form including medical history and immunization records.

Students must obtain a clearance card from the College’s Health Centre indicating health requirements have been met. Clearance cards along with a recent criminal reference check are mandatory for participation in the field placement component of the program. It is recommended that students obtain these items prior to attending the program in the fall. All costs associated with these requirements are the responsibility of the student.

ECE graduates are eligible to apply to the College of Early Childhood Educators to obtain status as a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE).

Best Start was launched in 2004 as a plan to strengthen healthy development, early learning and childcare services during a child’s first years. As part of this plan, a regulatory College of Early Childhood Educators was created to monitor and support professional standards of practice among child care practitioners.
