Become familiar with basic, traditional camera techniques as well as digital imaging.

Overview

Photography-Fundamentals – AFK4T (College Course: GRD124)

Students will learn all the camera functions while developing their creative, photographic philosophies in this hands-on course. Digital darkroom skills will be taught from a photographers' perspective, keeping emphasis on the importance of planning for a good shot. The history of photography will be discussed throughout the course as it pertains to the functions in camera and through digital darkroom. An introduction to traditional darkroom will also be explored for the purpose of demonstrating progress and its correlation to digital photography today.

Computer Imagery – TGB4T (College Course: GRD114)

This course will explore the endless and exciting possibilities of a popular image-editing program. Introductory exercises will highlight file size relationships, image editing, selections, palettes, layers, channels, type and special effects. Through practical assignments, students will develop and learn about rasterized imagery, photo manipulation, and special effects to be used for print and digital design. The skills learned in this course will give students original creative options for all other courses using images, type, print and digital layouts and special effects.

Note:

  • Tuition, materials, equipment and transportation fees will be covered through the Dual Credit program.
  • All students are expected to attend an orientation session prior to taking part in any Dual Credit program.
  • Students will be contacted by the SCWI Program Assistant, at least one week prior to the start of the program, to be provided with a date, time and location for each orientation session.

Students who may need learning opportunities outside of high school and who would benefit from a college or apprenticeship experience to complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

Dual credit programs can help students transition from high school to college and apprenticeship programs. They can help students complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma while customizing their learning with exposure to the college environment.

Students have the opportunity to:

  • Earn high school credits while studying at a local college or taking apprenticeship training
  • Gain experience in the transition to postsecondary education or apprenticeship
  • Get a head start on learning and training for their future careers.
