Dr. Amirali Kharazmi

Dr. Amirali Kharazmi brings a rich interdisciplinary background to Canadore College, shaped by years of experience in academia, consulting, and applied research. His academic journey reflects a strong commitment to using research as a tool for informed decision-making and positive community impact.

Amirali holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, a Master’s degree in Urban Management, and a Ph.D. in Health Tourism. He began his professional career as a university instructor, teaching courses such as Spatial Planning and Tourism Management, while actively engaging in research and scholarly publishing. His academic research included peer-reviewed publications in areas such as scenario planning, innovation, and health tourism, reinforcing his interest in evidence-based approaches to complex challenges.

Alongside his academic work, Amirali gained extensive experience in consulting and applied research. His projects involved data analysis, strategic planning, and performance evaluation for municipalities, healthcare institutions, tourism organizations, and private sector companies, including Coca-Cola. These experiences strengthened his belief that research is most impactful when it directly informs practice and policy.

In 2021, Amirali moved to Canada and continued his professional development by completing a Business Management program at Canadore College, graduating in August 2022. He is now proud to be part of the Canadore College Research Centre, where he contributes his interdisciplinary expertise to support a focused applied research project in collaboration with faculty and community partners.

“The most rewarding aspect of working at Canadore is being involved in applied, community-driven research that creates tangible outcomes,” he shares. “Collaborating with faculty, students, industry partners, and community organizations has reinforced my belief that research is strongest when it bridges theory and practice.”

What draws Amirali most to research at Canadore College is the institution’s emphasis on applied research, innovation, and community engagement. His goal is to contribute to projects that address real challenges faced by organizations and communities, while supporting evidence-based decision-making and practical solutions.

He encourages colleagues to approach research with curiosity and collaboration. “Research is most effective when it is a shared learning process rather than an isolated task,” he notes. “Welcoming diverse perspectives strengthens both the process and the outcomes.”

For students, Amirali hopes to reshape how research is understood. “Research is not only about statistics, reports, or publications,” he emphasizes. “It is about asking meaningful questions and solving real problems. It builds critical thinking, creativity, and decision-making skills that are valuable in any field.”

With a strong interest in interdisciplinary research, Amirali continues to explore connections between planning, innovation, health, and community development. He values research that is inclusive, ethical, and grounded in real world needs.
