Pre-Apprenticeship Program for Women

OVERVIEW

This TUITION FREE program is geared towards Indigenous women, or any woman interested in a career in carpentry. Through guided support in culturally inclusive strategies, you will develop essential and employable skills that will prepare you for the workforce. Train to use hand and power tools while working with various construction materials. Learn the latest installation methods along with the best practices and workplace safety relevant in today's construction industry.

Length: 22 week Certificate program
Location: Canadore College, Commerce Court Campus - North Bay
Start: Two Intakes. February 2019 and February 2020

What you will learn:

  • Job Readiness: Essential and Employability/Soft Skills Development
  • Mathematics for the Trades
  • Health and Safety Certification 
  • Exposure to Electrical as a Secondary Trade
  • General Carpenter Apprenticeship Training Level 1 (8 weeks) 
  • Work Placement (8 weeks)

  • General Contracting
  • Construction Companies
  • Residential and ICI Sectors
  • Furniture and Cabinet Manufacturers

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a woman 19 years of age or over
  • A resident of Ontario, and eligible to work in Canada
  • Must meet low-income eligibility criteria
  • Have an OSSD, GED or Equivalent (those without an OSSD, and have a minimum of grade 10 may still be considered)

Upon Completion Of The Program, Eligible Students May Pursue:

  • Or other post-secondary programs
