About FOLK

  •

Canadore FOLK is rooted in the folk school tradition: learning for the sake of living well, together. Our workshops invite adults of all ages to explore skills, practices, and ideas in a welcoming environment. These are non-credit learning experiences designed for people who value lifelong learning and who are invested in the health and sustainability of their communities.

  • Place-Based, Community-Oriented Learning

The folk school movement traces its origins to the work of Danish philosopher Nikolai Severin Grundtvig, whose vision emphasized education as a lived endeavor. In the late 1800s, this philosophy took shape through Scandinavian folk high schools, which centered learning in daily life, local culture, and the land itself.

Today, folk schools across North America continue this tradition - offering place-based, community-oriented learning that honours local knowledge, creativity, and the living world. Canadore FOLK carries this lineage forward by offering learning that is relational, hands-on, and connected to our place.
