Inter-Generational Community Summit on Decreasing the Risk of Social Isolation for Older Adults
Are you an older adult 55+, a caregiver or family member supporting an older adult? Or are you an organization that supports seniors in the Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts?
The Village at Canadore College invites you to join us during the week of March 1, 2021, for an Inter-Generational Summit on Decreasing the Risk of Social Isolation for Older Adults in Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts.
The Village at Canadore College received nearly $2 million dollars in funding through the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. Over the next five years, The Village Collective Impact Project, will work collaboratively with seniors (60 years and older), stakeholders and caregivers, regional community organizations and agencies, to focus on developing new models of healthy ageing and inclusion efforts aimed at improving outcomes for seniors and Indigenous seniors living in the Nipissing and Parry Sound district. The first step is to create a common agenda and mobilization framework.
About the Summit
The Summit’s goal was to bring the community together to create a common agenda. The common agenda describes a shared vision of change that includes a common understanding of the problem and a joint approach to solving the problem through agreed-upon actions. By gathering input from community members and agencies from all sectors, we can make big changes in our community. Together we can change the experience of seniors in our region. The Summit consisted of several virtual interactive sessions offered throughout the week of March 1. Throughout the week we reviewed the current state of our region, hosted a panel discussion on the challenges facing seniors in our region and planned our common agenda to move forward together!
Go to our project page at https://www.canadorecollege.ca/the-village/impact-project for updates about the common agenda beginning in April.
The Village Collective Impact Project will host yearly Inter-generational symposiums to celebrate the milestone of the project and bring the community together.
Important: Everyone is welcome at the Summit and the various sessions! This means that the sessions are respectful to everyone and all identities surrounding race, ethnicity, culture, religion and/or spirituality, age, levels of mental/physical ability, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.
