Building a Sustainable Future – Together
Our commitment to community collaboration is embedded in our Living Sustainability Plan - partnering with local organizations to co‑create sustainable initiatives, foster regional resilience, and enrich learning experiences for both students and residents alike.
Through our Canadore Community Orchards project, in collaboration with Clean, Green, Beautiful – North Bay, we are exploring ways to reduce our carbon footprint by growing food locally and supporting community institutions in their efforts to do the same. Locally grown foods not only help decrease environmental impact but also strengthen community partnerships and foster more personal connections between producers and consumers.
Launched in Spring 2022, the project brought together community members, students, and employees in a multicultural and intergenerational effort. The goal was to explore the potential of growing closer to home while inspiring others to embrace this approach.
Locations Include:
- The Nipissing Serenity Hospice
- Our Lady of Fatima Elementary School
- Ecole Secondaire Publique l’Odyssee
- Francis Separate School
- Holy Cross Catholic School
The Education Centre Trails at Canadore College are a scenic network of paths nestled in the natural beauty of the College Drive Campus. As part of Discovery Routes and the Trans Canada Trail system, these trails offer an opportunity to connect with nature while exploring one of Canada's iconic recreational corridors. Perfect for hiking, biking, or leisurely strolls, the trails showcase the region’s rich biodiversity and provide a peaceful retreat for students, staff, and the community.
In 2023, Canadore College served as the institutional lead for North Bay's Community in Bloom submission, helping the city achieve a perfect 5 Blooms rating in the provincial competition. Building on this success, the College continued its leadership in 2024, once again supporting the effort as the institutional lead and guiding the city to a 5 Blooms rating in the national submission.
Communities were evaluated based on criteria including tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape, and floral displays.
The Canadore Volunteers program encourages the college community to engage in meaningful service, from volunteering at events to organizing collections for those in need. As part of our Sustainable Canadore Living Plan, we focus on "Outreach and Community Collaboration," supporting causes with resources such as people, funding, or in-kind contributions.
