Clean Water Demonstration Site

  • Innovation Flows Here – Exploring Clean Water Technologies at Canadore

The Clean Water Demonstration Site at Canadore College is a cutting-edge facility designed to showcase the latest water treatment technologies. It is equipped to treat water from a variety of sources, including rainwater, with a focus on sustainability and innovation. Central to the system is a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, which enables the monitoring and analysis of real-time data, allowing for remote oversight and optimal system performance.

This state-of-the-art facility not only provides invaluable hands-on learning opportunities for students, but it also serves as a key component of Canadore College's Clean Water Initiative, which is led by the First Peoples' Centre. The initiative aims to educate and raise awareness about the importance of water conservation and sustainable treatment practices, with a particular emphasis on supporting Indigenous communities' access to clean and safe water.

The demonstration site features a comprehensive water treatment process that includes gathering rainwater, filtration, UV treatment and/or chlorine injection, and the ability to monitor changes in pH and turbidity. The facility's integration of these technologies is designed to promote a deep understanding of the complex processes involved in water treatment and the importance of maintaining healthy water systems for environmental and community health.
