The Indigenous Circle on Education (operated as the First Peoples’ Circle on Education) is an Indigenous-led, not-for-profit organization that focuses on supporting private industry and government in fulfilling their mandates as an advisory team, contractor, and collaborative partner.
The FPCE was formed in 2022 with the mission of creating revenue streams that are invested in Indigenous Learner Success by removing barriers to attending postsecondary education. Profits from the efforts of the FPCE Team as strategically invested by covering the cost of attending postsecondary, for Indigenous People who may otherwise not attend.
There are misconceptions in Canada, that all Indigenous People have fair and free access to postsecondary education. While there are some programs in place, they are often fragmented and lead to individual learners falling through the cracks. The FPCE intends to partner on projects that can earn revenue to be invested in bringing Indigenous Learner attainment rates in postsecondary to new levels. We also aim to diversity representation of Indigenous People in careers across a variety of spectrums, including IT, Public Safety, Health Care and Manufacturing.
Currently, an application process for funds is under development with potential students having access to resources with a target date of September 2024.
Costs that may be covered include:
- Tuition and Ancillary Fees
- Housing Supports
- Travel and Books
- Childcare
- Peer Tutoring
- Technology
- Other Wrap-Around Supports as Required
