New Faculty Orientation

All new Canadore employees must complete New Employee Orientation (NEO) delivered through Dayforce. In addition, new faculty must complete the following:

  • New Faculty Orientation (NFO / CPD208): An introduction to teaching and learning practices at Canadore, instructional technologies, and available teaching resources and support. This session addresses key categories such as:
    • Getting Started (parking, textbooks, health and safety, student concerns)
    • Learning about the Canadore website, CAELL microsite, and iLearn
    • Curriculum Components at Canadore (Course Outlines, Section-Specific Information Documents, and Lesson Planning) 
    • Course Mapping
    • Canadore Services (Student Success Services, Educational Technology Services, First People's Centre, Harris Learning Library)
  • Intro to iLearn (CPD100): An Introduction to Canadore's Learning Management System, iLearn. This session addresses:
    • Constructing your course in iLearn, including the six minimum pre-start requirements
    • Creating and managing News Items (Announcements)
    • Organizing course content
    • Tracking attendance and student progress
    • Building a Gradebook

You will receive email invitations to register for both sessions after you are hired by the College.

New faculty can also review, register, and attend the many PD opportunities available to all faculty at Canadore at any time.

    • August 20, 9:00am -12:30pm, NFO
    • August 20, 1:30pm - 4:30pm, Intro to iLearn
    • August 28, 5:30pm - 9:00pm, NFO
    • October 23, PD Symposium
  • Winter 2026
    • December 18, 9:00am - 12:30pm, NFO
    • December 18, 1:30pm - 4:30pm, Intro to iLearn
    • January 8, 5:30pm - 8:30pm, Intro to iLearn
    • March 5, PD Symposium
  • Spring 2026
    • April 15, 9:00am - 12:30pm, NFO
    • April 15, 1:30pm - 4:30pm, Intro to iLearn
    • April 23, 5:30pm - 8:30pm, Intro iLearn
    • May 28, SoTL Symposium

As new faculty, you must register in one of each of the sessions (NFO and Intro to iLearn). Once registered, more information including room numbers or meeting links will be emailed to you.

Canadore offers a range of educational technology tools to support teaching. Visit the EdTech section in the main navbar to explore available tools, learn how to access them, and find support for using them.
