It is the student’s responsibility to contact Student Success Services (as early as possible) to identify individual disability-related educational requirements. Please call, email or drop by Student Success Services to meet with our Student Life Navigator to map out your road to success.
Proper documentation from the appropriate, registered health care professional is required before services may be provided. In the case of a learning disability, a recent psycho-educational assessment is required. Reports from previous special education services or disability services programs (IEP, IPRC, WSIB) are also helpful. All information provided to Student Success Services will be held in confidence and will only be released with the student’s informed consent.
All information shared with Student Success Services will not be released without your written consent. Student’s personal information is held in utmost confidence within Student Success Services.
Personal information including medical documentation and psycho-educational assessments are collected in order to understand student needs and determine reasonable disability accommodations and to meet our requirements under the Ontario Human Rights Code. Personal information is maintained and disposed of in a secure manner, in compliance with relevant privacy legislation.
Information provided to Student Success Services is stored separate from a student’s academic record in order to protect a students’ right to privacy. All Student Success Services team members with access to student files maintain strict levels of privacy and confidentiality.
Summer Transition Program Update
Every summer, Canadore College offers a free transition program for students who have a disability. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for college life and learning. It is an opportunity to gain skills for academic success, build connections with staff and students, and learn about college resources. Summer Transition 2020 will run from August 31 - September 6.
This year, the Summer Transition Program will be offered virtually. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Please register by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. In your email include your name, student number, and program.
