(NORTH BAY, ONT.) – Canadore College presented entrance incentives to 10 students who relocated to North Bay, Ont. for postsecondary through the Study North initiative.
Students with hometowns starting with K, L, M and N in their second semester of study at Canadore College were eligible to apply for a $1,000 financial incentive towards their tuition through the Study North program.
Shawn Chorney, Canadore College’s vice-president of enrolment management, indigenous and student services says credits the program with dramatically raising the profile of the northern colleges and their offerings within more urban markets.
“The quality of the Canadore experience, along with our natural environment, student life programming and location, creates a college education that is second to none,” said Chorney. “We are very proud that students are choosing to learn and live here at Canadore where they benefit from the incredible lifestyle and shared values that we enjoy as northerners.”
The collaborative initiative between northern Ontario’s six publicly-funded colleges and supported by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) was launched in 2014 and has surpassed its overall targets in its last year of funding. Canadore College has seen 50 students register for full-time programs since the initiative began and another 30 have found employment through Stay North, a career matching service offered through Study North.
According to the six northern Ontario colleges, the project has had a significant economic impact on their communities, to the tune of $1.6 billion.
Canadore trains people through applied learning, leadership and innovation. It provides access to over 65 full-time quality programs and has outstanding faculty and student services. The College and its students add nearly $290 million to the regions of Nipissing and Parry Sound. Approximately 1,000 students graduate from Canadore each year, and they join 43,000 alumni working across the globe.
