Canadore Panthers wrap-up for November 2 and 3, 2024

Canadore College Panthers Game - Men's team

The Canadore Panthers men’s basketball team put forth a gutsy performance against Conestoga, despite a 77-68 defeat at home on Saturday.

Canadore started strong, trailing Conestoga by only six points at halftime, with an impressive second quarter that saw them outscore their opponents 20-17. The Panthers' offense was fueled by standout performances from players like Ty Huxtable and Thomas Gowland. Huxtable led the scoring for Canadore with 14 points, while Gowland added 15 points and 8 rebounds.

The team was resilient, particularly in the third quarter, where they scored 21 points and displayed a robust defensive effort. The Panthers managed to convert on 36.6% of their field goals and excelled from the free-throw line, hitting 62.5% of their attempts.

Despite the loss, Canadore's bench players stepped up, contributing 31 points compared to Conestoga's 16.

 

Meantime, the Canadore College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of games against George Brown College and Centennial College over the weekend.

Saturday, the Panthers fell in a hard-fought battle against the Huskies that showcased the skills of both teams. The final scores were 23-25, 22-25, 25-19, and 19-25.

Peter Ostranski-Ayles led the attack for Canadore, contributing 8 kills and 11 points while Khaled Bryant and Konrad Siedlec also played pivotal roles, making 6 and 4 kills, respectively.

On Sunday, despite a spirited effort, the Panthers lost to the Colts 3-0 (18-25, 21-25, and 23-25).

Throughout the match, several players stood out. Peter Ostranski-Ayles led the charge with an impressive 12 kills on 23 attempts, achieving a hitting percentage of .522.

The team's defensive efforts were led by Tristan Godmaire who accumulated seven digs.

 

The Panthers women's volleyball team earned a split during two competitive matches over the weekend, facing off against George Brown College and Centennial College.

On Saturday, in their match against George Brown, the Panthers secured a solid victory, winning 3-1 with set scores of 25-17, 18-25, 25-19, and 25-23. Kira Fahrbach led the offense with an impressive 15 kills. Kassidy Dyer and Emily Peltier also made significant contributions, each registering seven kills.

The following day, Canadore faced Centennial College in a tough contest, ultimately falling 3-1 with scores of 25-11, 26-24, 18-25, and 20-25. Despite the loss, standout performances included Elise Churman who led the team with nine kills.

 

All three teams see action again this coming weekend.

On Saturday, November 9, the Panthers men’s basketball take on Fanshawe at the Education Centre Gym, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Also on Saturday, the Panthers volleyball teams are taking on Georgian. The women’s game is at 1:00 p.m.; the men’s team plays at 3:00 p.m. Both games are in Barrie.

On Sunday, November 10, the teams are in King City taking on Seneca. The women take to the court at 1:00 p.m., while the men play at 3:00 p.m.
