Tips on Self-Care and Mental Well-Being

As we recognize Bell Let’s Talk Day this week, it's crucial to prioritize our own mental well-being and practice self-care.
Did you know that suicide is the leading cause of death among youth in Canada? Alarmingly, 24 percent of young people have reported experiencing suicidal thoughts. Additionally, only half of Canadians facing mental health challenges receive the necessary support, and there are 21 opioid-related deaths per day in Canada.
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to overlook our own well-being. Here are some practical tips to help you maintain your mental health:
Find Time for Activities You Enjoy
Engage in activities that bring you joy, such as exercising. Whether it's going for a walk, dancing, or strength training, physical activity has been proven to boost your mood and overall health.
Prioritize Sleep
Getting adequate sleep is essential. Aim to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day. To improve sleep quality, avoid caffeine, alcohol, and screen time before bedtime.
Practice Mindfulness
Incorporate mindfulness practices like yoga or stretching into your routine, especially after long hours at work or in front of a screen. These activities help relax both your body and mind.
Stay Connected
Social connections are vital. Spend time with friends or family, join social groups, or volunteer your time to build a supportive network.
On Bell Let’s Talk Day, let's unite to break down the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Together, we can create safe spaces where everyone feels comfortable sharing their feelings without fear of judgment.
At Canadore College, we are committed to fostering a supportive environment for our students and staff. Remember, your well-being is a priority, and resources are available to support you on your mental health journey.
