Earlier this month, Canadore College received formal approval from the Ontario College Quality Assurance Service and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to deliver two new programs developed in response to industry demand.

Construction Project Management Ontario College Graduate Certificate

This certificate program is designed to meet the current and projected needs of the increasingly specialized construction industry.  Graduates will be able to knowledgeably plan and function within the construction project management process. The program is structured to develop capacity by leveraging multi-disciplinary teams that include the roles of project managers, architects, engineers, regulators, environmental consultants, contractors, and construction professionals. This program will provide a graduate level opportunity to many other Canadore College skilled trades and apprenticeship programs, including Building Construction, Civil Engineering, Machinist, Mechanical Engineering and Welder Fitter. The first student cohort for this graduate certificate is September 2019.

Health Care Administration – Indigenous Ontario College Graduate Certificate

This specialized diploma program will provide health care practitioners with broad business and fundamental leadership skills. The program is intended for those who have previous

education and work experience within health care and wish to develop additional competencies in communication, human resources, operations, critical thinking, leadership, and financial skills. Indigenous communities have many opportunities and challenges with respect to addressing the needs of a growing population, including the legacy of colonization and the urgent need for improved health and education. The administration needs in First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities and Aboriginal health organizations directly relate to the transfer of health programs and services from Health Canada. This program is designed to help Indigenous communities by preparing graduates to increase the capacity of Aboriginal health organizations to deliver services, coordinate programs and promote the health of Indigenous Peoples. Students will learn how to integrate patient and family care theories into current practices, which aligns with care cross-cultural principles in all Indigenous populations. Educational laddering opportunities exist for graduates of the Canadore College and Nipissing University Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Dental Hygiene; Mental Health and Addiction Worker; Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant; Practical Nursing; and Respiratory Therapy programs delivered by Canadore College. This program is anticipated for delivery in September 2020.

“It is within our mandate to develop and deliver programming that responds to the ever-evolving social and workforce demands of our regional and provincial economic ecosystems,” said George Burton, president and CEO of Canadore College. “We are pleased to work with government, research entities, industry and other stakeholders in order to build greater capacity for our communities.”

The construction project management and Indigenous health care administration programs are the most recent funding approvals from the MTCU.
