Building Construction Dual Credit

Semester Two high school credits and two college courses

This is an introductory course which will introduce students to a variety of commonly used portable hand and power tools and selected stationary power tools.

Overview

Tools and Equipment I – TSK4T (College Course: BTT021)

The emphasis will be on the identification, selection, safe and efficient use and maintenance of these tools. Knowing how to choose the proper tool, how to use it safely and skillfully and how to maintain the tool in good working condition is essential to anyone wishing to work in the building trades.

Tools and Equipment II – TSR4T (College Course: BTT022)

This course builds on Tools and Equipment I. Students’ knowledge and practical skill application will be further extended.

Length:

Afternoon or morning release for one semester

Note:

  • Tuition, materials, equipment and transportation fees will be covered through the Dual Credit program.
  • All students are expected to attend an orientation session prior to taking part in any Dual Credit program.
  • Students will be contacted by the SCWI Program Assistant, at least one week prior to the start of the program, to be provided with a date, time and location for each orientation session.
  • Students involved in this program will be excused from their regular classes or co-op to attend the College.

Students who may need learning opportunities outside of high school and who would benefit from a college or apprenticeship experience to complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

Dual credit programs can help students transition from high school to college and apprenticeship programs. They can help students complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma while customizing their learning with exposure to the college environment.

Students have the opportunity to:

  • Earn high school credits while studying at a local college or taking apprenticeship training
  • Gain experience in the transition to postsecondary education or apprenticeship
  • Get a head start on learning and training for their future careers.
