FREE for Qualified Participants who are able to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be available to start IMMEDIATELY.
  • Must be available Monday to Friday –  scheduled hours vary from 08:30 am to 07:30 pm (a schedule will be provided once accepted into program or per request at )
  • Must be able to attend face-to-face learning at the College Drive Campus.

  • Please note, Canadore College does not provide funding for living expenses.

Program Length: 25 weeks (includes 8-week placement)

The Culinary industry is growing and there is a shortage of professionally-trained cooks and chefs. Train in our cutting-edge production kitchen. Learn valuable skills in food preparation, presentation and kitchen management in a real-world setting.

What You Will Learn:

  • Math – Academic Upgrading
  • 1st Aid/CPR
  • Smart Serve, WHIMIS, and Food Safety Training
  • Food, beverage and kitchen management
  • Restaurant food production
  • Food preparation and culinary skills
  • Wines
  • Secondary Trade Exposure – Baking
  • Work Placement – (8 weeks)

Future Opportunities:

Upon completion of the program, students may pursue:
  • Employment in a variety of restaurants and cooking environments as Chef de Partie, First Cook, Sous Chef, and Chef de Cuisine
  • Additional training toward a culinary skills-chef certificate or a Culinary Management Diploma

Program Length: 21 weeks (includes 8-week placement)

There is a skilled worker shortage and General Carpenters are in high demand.

Train to use hand and power tools while working with various construction materials. You will learn the latest installation methods along with the best practices and workplace safety relevant in today’s construction industry.

What You Learn:

  • Math - Academic Upgrading
  • Safety Training (1 week)
  • General Carpenter–Level 1 (403A)
  • Secondary Trade Exposure–Plumbing Techniques
  • Work Placement (8 weeks)

Future Opportunities:

Upon completion of the program, students may pursue:
  • additional training to obtain grade 12 equivalency and further apprenticeship training.
  • employment in a variety of commercial and residential construction fields

Who Can Apply?

The pre-apprenticeship program is geared specifically to individuals with a minimum Grade 10 or equivalent.

Anyone with  an interest in the carpentry or construction field can apply.
