General Carpenter Pre-Apprenticeship

FREE for Qualified Participants

Location: Canadore College, Commerce Court Campus
Program Length: 22 weeks (full-time)
Date: March - August 2020

Skilled workers trained in residential and commercial wiring are in demand. Train to use the tools of the trade in this hands-on program. You will learn essential skills such as service installations, pipe bending, and armoured cable practices on industry-standard tools.

What You Will Learn:

  • Trade Calculations/Math
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Working at Heights, Lock Out/Tag Out Certification
  • Level One Electrical (309A) including electrical theory, bluepring reading, safety and electrical code
  • Secondary Trade Exposure - Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A)
  • Work Placement (8 weeks)

Future Opportunities:

Upon completion of the program, students may pursue employment with various electrical contractors as an electrical apprentice

Who Can Apply?

The pre-apprenticeship program is geared specifically to individuals with a minimum Grade 10 or equivalent.

Anyone interested in the electrical industry can apply.

Program Length: 20 weeks (full-time)
Date: February to June 2020

There is a skilled worker shortage and carpenters are in high demand. Train to use hand and power tools while working with various construction materials. You will learn the latest installation methods along with the best practices and workplace safety relevant in today's construction industry.

What You Will Learn:

  • Math - Academic Upgrading
  • Safety Training (1 week)
  • General Carpenter - Level 1 (403A)
  • Secondary Trade Exposure - Electrical Techniques
  • Work Placement (8 weeks)

Future Opportunities:

Upon completion of the program, students may pursue:

  • additional training to obtain grade 12 equivalency and further apprenticeship training
  • employment in a variety of commercial and residential construction fields

Who Can Apply?

FREE FOR QUALIFIED PARTICIPANTS

This training program is geared towards Indigenous women, or any woman interested in a career in carpentry.

Train to use hand and power tools while working with various construction materials. Learn the latest installation methods along with the best practices and workplace safety to make you employable in today's construction industry.

You will be guided and supported in culturally inclusive strategies during training and placement, with continued support as you transition into the workplace or futher education.

Location: Canadore College, Commerce Court Campus - North Bay
Date: February - July 2020
Cost: Free (Tuition, Tools, Personal Protective Equipment and Safety Certfications)

What you will learn:

  • Job Readiness: Essential and Employability/Soft Skills Development
  • Mathematics for the Trades
  • Health and Safety Certification (including First Aid/CPR, Working at Heights, WHMIS and more)
  • Exposure to Electrical as a Secondary Trade
  • General Carpenter Apprenticeship Training Level 1 (8 weeks) 
  • Work Placement (8 weeks)

  • Furniture and Cabinet Manufacturers

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a woman 19 years of age or over
  • A resident of Ontario, and eligible to work in Canada
  • Must meet low-income eligibility criteria
  • Have an OSSD, GED or Equivalent (those without an OSSD, and have a minimum of grade 10 may still be considered)
