Just over $500 was has been raised by the Parry Sound community for the Ontario Association for Suicide Prevention.

Canadore College's West Parry Sound Campus, in partnership with anonymous donors, was able to provide three safeTALK sessions for interested area residents. There was no cost to attend for the 90 participants, but admission was by donation to the Ontario Association for Suicide Prevention.

safeTALK is a three-hour training program that prepares helpers to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. Most people with thoughts of suicide, either directly or indirectly, invite help to stay safe. Alert helpers know how to identify and work with these opportunities to help protect life.

Future related programming at Canadore includes a two day Applied Suicide Interventions Skills Training (ASIST) and a two day Mental Health First Aid course. Call 705.746.9222 for more details.
