External Awards

External organizations also provide assistance to our students. Students are encouraged to apply for these external awards, scholarships and/or bursaries. Application procedures and deadlines are specific to each one of these awards, so please confirm these details prior to applying.

Canadian Hearing Services National Scholarship Program

Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) proudly offers scholarships to Deaf and hard of hearing students to help break down barriers to higher education and build brighter futures. Scholarships are available for undergraduate and graduate students, including mature students attending accredited post-secondary institutions inside or outside of Canada. Students who receive funding remain eligible for the same level of funding for up to four years.

The scholarships are available to Canadian residents who are at least 17 years of age, and Deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing. Scholarship grants of $3,000 for full-time students and $1,000 for part-time students may be applied to cover tuition, residence, and educational resources. The exact number of awards will be dependent on the number and ranking of qualified applicants.

Chaney-Ensign Bursary Fund

The Chaney-Ensign Bursary Fund provides educational bursaries to students who demonstrate serious financial need and who have completed their high school requirements in publicly-funded secondary schools located in the City of Hamilton. Students must be in attendance at an approved college or university in Canada or, for specialized programs, in the United States. If warranted by continuing need and satisfactory progress, the award may be repeated in subsequent years. This bursary fund is generally intended to assist students enrolled in full-time undergraduate studies, although part-time or postgraduate studies may be considered.

The Colonel Milne Memorial Bursary

Two Colonel Milne Memorial Bursaries, each in the amount of $500.00 are awarded annually to two students of Canadore College who, along with meeting any necessary general criteria  established by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23, also meet the following criteria:

  • Has completed successfully a minimum of three (3) full courses or their equivalent at Canadore College within the previous twelve (12) months of the date of the bursary application
  • Is continuing to be registered attending as a student at Canadore College, and
  • Is in good Academic Standing

Indspire Awards

Indspire disburses bursaries and scholarships through its Building Brighter Futures program to Indigenous students who are enrolled in post-secondary programs. Since 1985, Indspire has disbursed bursaries and scholarships to First Nation, Inuit, and Métis post-secondary students. It is the largest funder for Indigenous education outside of the federal government.

National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) Financial Aid Portal

The National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) is pleased to announce the availability of its new financial aid portal for students with disabilities: www.DisabilityAwards.ca.

With the support of the Canada Student Loan Program and the Office for Disability Issues, NEADS has developed a site containing over 300 scholarships, awards and bursaries specifically for post-secondary students with disabilities.

Parts Canada Trans Can Entrance Awards

Awarded to a student entering Canadore College in his or her first year of a Skilled Trades program, who participated in or attended that year’s Parts Canada Trans Can at Walton Raceway. Value $1,000.00

The President’s Bursary

The President’s Bursary in the amount of $500.00 is awarded semi-annually (spring and fall) to one mature student who, along with meeting any necessary general bursary criteria, also meets the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates their intent to achieve a higher level of education or vocational qualification in a vocational or trade related program at Canadore College in order to enhance employment or career opportunities, and who has not been enrolled in a school, college or university program for a minimum of two (2) years and who will attend a recognized course of study.

The deadline for applications is on April 30, 2021.
