External Awards

External organizations also provide assistance to our students. Students are encouraged to apply for these external awards, scholarships and/or bursaries. Application procedures and deadlines are specific to each one of these awards, so please confirm these details prior to applying.

Ad Standards Scholarship

Ad Standards offers two $1,500.00 scholarships annually to full-time post-secondary students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and who are enrolled in an undergraduate Advertising or Marketing program at a Canadian university or college. One award is open to students attending a primarily English post-secondary institution and one is open to students attending a primarily French post-secondary institution. Successful applicants display a record of academic excellence, a commitment to volunteerism, and a genuine interest in pursuing a career in advertising or marketing. Please note that each institution can submit only one application per year. Interested applicants should contact their Program Chair/Coordinator before beginning the application process, to ensure that their institution has not already submitted an application.

Chaney-Ensign Bursary Fund

The Chaney-Ensign Bursary Fund provides educational bursaries to students who demonstrate serious financial need and who have completed their high school requirements in publicly-funded secondary schools located in the City of Hamilton. Students must be in attendance at an approved college or university in Canada or, for specialized programs, in the United States. If warranted by continuing need and satisfactory progress, the award may be repeated in subsequent years. This bursary fund is generally intended to assist students enrolled in full-time undergraduate studies, although part-time or postgraduate studies may be considered.

Colonel Milne Memorial Bursary

Two Colonel Milne Memorial Bursaries, each in the amount of $500.00 are awarded annually to two students of Canadore College who, along with meeting any necessary general criteria  established by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23, also meet the following criteria:

  • Has completed successfully a minimum of three (3) full courses or their equivalent at Canadore College within the previous twelve (12) months of the date of the bursary application
  • Is continuing to be registered attending as a student at Canadore College, and
  • Is in good Academic Standing

Couponbirds "Help to Save" Scholarship

To help students ease their burden in tuition fees, CouponBirds has initiated the “Help to save” scholarship program. In this program, participants are asked to do a little survey, meanwhile write an essay on the elaboration of their viewpoint towards the future of Ecommerce and Coupon sites.

Indspire Awards

Indspire disburses bursaries and scholarships through its Building Brighter Futures program to Indigenous students who are enrolled in post-secondary programs. Since 1985, Indspire has disbursed bursaries and scholarships to First Nation, Inuit, and Métis post-secondary students. It is the largest funder for Indigenous education outside of the federal government.

Lyle Makosky Values and Ethics in Sport Fund

Financial awards to support the critical study of sport will be granted annually to applicants who meet the criteria in these categories: Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident; Must be active in Canadian sport; as an athlete, practitioner (coach, official, administrator) or educator (teacher, university or college faculty, etc.); and, If an athlete, must be engaged in post-secondary education.

National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) Financial Aid Portal

The National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) is pleased to announce the availability of its new financial aid portal for students with disabilities: www.DisabilityAwards.ca.

With the support of the Canada Student Loan Program and the Office for Disability Issues, NEADS has developed a site containing over 300 scholarships, awards and bursaries specifically for post-secondary students with disabilities.

Parts Canada Trans Can Entrance Awards

Awarded to a student entering Canadore College in his or her first year of a Skilled Trades program, who participated in or attended that year’s Parts Canada Trans Can at Walton Raceway. Value $1,000.00

The President's Bursary

The President’s Bursary in the amount of $500.00 is awarded semi-annually (spring and fall) to one mature student who, along with meeting any necessary general bursary criteria, also meets the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates their intent to achieve a higher level of education or vocational qualification in a vocational or trade related program at Canadore College in order to enhance employment or career opportunities, and who has not been enrolled in a school, college or university program for a minimum of two (2) years and who will attend a recognized course of study.

Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command Bursary Assistance Program - $500

This bursary program is designed to assist students entering or pursuing their postsecondary education, including courses and programs of a technical and vocational nature, outside of and beyond secondary school. Approved bursary assistance is not based upon scholastic standing but rather on the successful admission status to a postsecondary institution or successful completion of one or more years leading to a recognized degree, diploma or certificate.
Application forms are available from the Canadore College Financial Aid Office.

Note: This opens in September of each year and closes on the last Friday of March.
