Accessible Learning Services

What are accommodations?

Accommodations are developed to reduce and/or remove educational–related barriers to provide students’ the opportunity to meet program and course requirements. In high school you might have called it an IEP or disability accommodation. The accommodation process advocates for collaboration between the student, Student Success Services and Instructors/Faculty as part of our shared duty to accommodate students with disabilities. Student Success Services has the necessary documentation on file that supports these accommodations.

Examples of Accommodations

  • Course material available in alternative formats
  • Extra time for testing
  • Use of assistive technology
  • Peer Tutoring support
  • Learning Strategist appointments

Self Identification Procedures

It is the student’s responsibility to contact Student Success Services (as early as possible) to identify individual disability-related educational requirements. Please call, email or drop by Student Success Services to meet with our Student Life Navigator to map out your road to success.

Disability Documentation

Proper documentation from the appropriate, registered health care professional is required before services may be provided. In the case of a learning disability, a recent psycho-educational assessment is required. Reports from previous special education services or disability services programs (IEP, IPRC, WSIB) are also helpful. All information provided to Student Success Services will be held in confidence and will only be released with the student’s informed consent.

Student Success Profile (SSP)

Student Success Profile (accommodation letters) are prepared in agreement with Canadore College’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusivity, the Ontario Human Rights Commission Policy on Accessible Education for students with disabilities.
